FEMdesigner is registered in France as an engineering consultancy (SIRET: 491 844 775 00016) from formerly UK-based JG Design services. We are based at 7 Rue President Fruchon, St Marcel, Indre, France 36200 (Tel. France +33 (0) 254 243 976 or UK +44 (0) 709 234 4029, UK Fax. +44 (0) 700 608 6297). The company founder is James Gardiner who has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a masters in Computer Aided Engineering and extensive experience of Design and Stress Analysis in the Nuclear, Offshore and Automotive industries.
We carry out stress analysis consultancy and development of the FEMdesigner FE kernel for specialised applications, such as piston design software, CAD-to-FEM interfaces, medical applications etc.
The FEMdesigner code was released for sale in 1994 as one of the first Windows-based FE applications available for the PC and probably the first with dynamic dimensioning using the C language. It has always been the only commercial FE software in Europe which is truly affordable to everyone, with the additional cost-saving benefit of running on absolutely any PC specification.
Our mission is to continually strive to make our software as fast and as simple as possible. Therefore we deliberately avoid complex interfaces which both overuse computer resources and make simple things appear difficult. Small is efficient: The smaller you make your code and data, the less work the computer system has to do, therefore the faster it works. To achieve this we carefully plan every addition to our core code so that it is coded as efficiently as possible and we fit it all in a few Megabytes. The extra codesize (about 3 Gigs) that you get with other FE software is just bloat from inefficient coding.
